Survival Mode is an installation that explores chronic illness, near-death experience, and identity. The work combines a weathered bathtub, 15ft cyanotype prints, video from 2 years of pain-management baths, and ongoing collections of food and medical waste as a way to capture my experience through nearly life-ending illness. The interdisciplinary nature of this piece alludes to different sensory overload endured during moments of great pain. Cyanotypes capture impressions of my actual physical form, video replays copies of old light I once reflected. These continually building piles of trash and medical waste serve as an experiment in self-portraiture.
